I haven't done this in a while, but we could always use new blood:

To quote an email from my lovely co-mod and creator of the above comm, [ profile] tanihissatsu:

"You and I have been through a lot together. Some really odd crackpairings, or horridly written S&M-chan, and even the occaisonal (gaspitals!) mpreg.
Now, I was thinking - as I occaisonally do - what reason is there for the rest of the populace to suffer so? Why should they have to endure the same trials and tribulations we did, only to come up with maybe the same results?"

And hense, [ profile] ficrecs_ftw was born. We've grown a lot, and already have a bunch of awesome rec's to our name. Come join us!

That's why I began a ficrec comm on LJ.
It is a total newborn. A fledgling, hasn't quite shed its wings. Or really even gotten them yet.

Hell, it's still a bloody egg."

As you may have noticed, I accepted, and here we are. Feel free to join up and/or pimp us out to fandom in general. We take all kinds, dear. Come join the madness.

A stag is right for James. Powerful legs, strong shoulders, fast and agile and inherently noble: it's all James. But there's still that prickle of fear that Sirius can never quite soothe. Stags, even ones with antlers as magnificent as Prongs', are prey animals. Fate knows something Sirius doesn't and he doesn't like it at all.

Title: Through A Glass, Darkly
Author: Lexin
Series: Harry Potter
Rating: NC-17
Genres: Angst, AU – Magical
Warnings: Ambiguous Consent, Character Death, Dark, Dom/Sub Relationship, Violence/Torture
Summary: Long ago, and in a world ruled by a Dark Lord, Harry Potter went to Hogwarts. *CHAN*slash. SS/HP. Please read the warnings.

"What makes you think you're going to die?" Snape didn't seem surprised.

"Voldemort's three times my age."

"Five, I believe. Not that I've ever asked the Dark Lord his age."

"If the people are hurt," Duo said, softly, "the military will need more soldiers, to defend."

Edward's head came up sharply, and he narrowed his gaze at the boy in front of him. "That's ridiculous," Edward retorted. "That would require unleashing the chimera on the people who are supposed to be protected by the military."

"But it's also a way to get power, to prove there's a threat." Duo shrugged, and began walking again. "I see it...I was seeing it. Force the unhappiness, and claim the people's unhappiness is reason to bring in the military. Then the person in charge is more important."

"You're quite a territorial drunk, aren't you?"

Title: Meeting Of The Minds
By: Helga Von Nutwimple
Series: Harry Potter
Genre: Humor, Romance
Pairing: HET! Snape/Hermione
Challenge: Marriage Law
Summary: With the Order's safety hanging on the whim of a lovesick Ron, Snape calls his bluff... and Hermione calls his. Loosely based on the WIKTT Marriage Law Challenge.

Random Snippet:

"What about you, Severus? You're required to bid as well, aren't you?"

"I must regretfully inform you that no one has answered my personal ad."

"P-Personal Ad?"

"Grumpy Bastard seeks Petrified Deaf-Mute."

McGonagall choked on her glass of wine; next to her, she heard Dumbledore do the same.

"Well, that's most unfortunate, Severus," McGonagall said, her eyes dancing. "Perhaps we'll have another Basilisk attack and true love will find you."

"One can only hope," Snape replied.

Title: The Children (
Author: [ profile] copperbadge aka Sam Vimes
Series: Harry Potter
Genre: Gen, Post-War. Drama, Angst.

"Call us?"

"Yes. Their name for us. Like the Boy who Lived. The Dark Lord. People always have to name things."

He could sense her surprise. "No, I didn't know we...had a name."

"They call us the Children. Because we're still only kids, don't you see. The Children who fought Voldemort and won."

"I don't know if I want to be a child the rest of my life," Hermione said thoughtfully.

"That's the wonderful irony, Hermione. We none of us are children, except perhaps Polaris."

The boy twisted in his lap, and he stroked his shoulder, soothingly.

"Children, of course, are clean beings. Blank slates. Adults have...battle scars. We just happen to wear ours on the outside."

Title: Welcome to the Real World (
Author: IamtheLizardQueen
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: O_o Uhm.... Pg-13, so far.
Genre: Post-war, Romance, Drama
Summary: Draco finds himself sharing an apartment with Harry in the muggle world. It's scary, and new, and a good thing he has Harry to help him through it all.

"You're not going to say you've never been attracted to anyone before?  That's ridiculous," Harry scoffed.

"Ah, but what is attraction?  Take me for instance, I am, outwardly, highly attractive", Draco said, no hint of shame.

"And so modest," Harry muttered.  " You might be attractive, but then you open your mouth and the illusion disappears."

"Precisely my point.  You, when you despised me, would never have seen me as attractive.  It no longer mattered what I looked like, all that mattered was your perception of me."

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  You're not exactly breaking new ground here," Harry interposed, determined to play the devil's advocate.

"So you admit, that it is possible to view someone as attractive or otherwise, without any mention of outward appearance?"

"Absolutely," Harry said.

"And that the only true attraction exists outside parameters of physical appearance?"

"For some people, I would say that's true."

"Therefore, for some people, true attraction can exist beyond even male or female distinctions," Draco said, summing up his argument.

"You being one of these enlightened people, I assume?"

"Harry, you know how fussy I am.  I spend hours choosing which robe to wear..."

"That's not so weird," Harry interjected.

"They're all identical black robes," Draco explained.

"Oh, yeah, that's messed up."

"So, knowing that, can you imagine how seriously I take a relationship?"

"It's true, you are rather prissy.  And fussy," Harry said solemnly.

"Yeah... hey!" Draco said, offended; Harry just smiled.

"Go back to talking about your high and lofty ideals."

"Well, I was just saying that while I may have been momentarily distracted by a pretty face a few times, in all honesty, I've never been truly attracted to anyone, and since I don't know the gender yet of my eventual partner, I refuse to label myself."

"Perfection is hard to find, you know", Harry warned.

"I'm not looking for a perfect person; I'm looking for the person who is perfect for me.  And I wager, in that respect, I'm no different then you."

O_o; d00d... I found a Dramione fic I can acutally stomach... and it's rather good! Well, if I ever decide to read another, it'd damn well have to be a post-war or semi-AU, unless the author is as good as this one. In related news, I normally HATE this pairing, yet find it incredibly fun to say. Dramione~ ^__^

[Knockturn in the Rain]
Rating:  MA

AU;  Severus Snape meets Harry Potter in Knockturn Alley: He was a young one, sitting on stone and cobble, hunched under the safety of a shop’s overhang with his knobby knees hugged to his narrow chest, and pale arms grasping them tight.  In the rain he resembled some tragic portrait taken long ago, meant to draw sympathy and providence, to tug at the heartstrings of cold-hearted bastards like myself and push us into charitable action.  But really, he was just a pretty little boy on a stoop, with small hands and a glimmer of experience behind green eyes, waiting for business.

My Notes: The Chosen One shall defeat the Dark Lord... but at what cost?

I think this is the first time I've actually rec'd a chanslash fic other than The Devil Will Drag You Under (though I've read quite a few), but this one demanded it. So very good. Not very explicit, either...

HP Crossover: "Pain and Magic", PG-13
Pain and Magic
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: House/Snape (if you squint). Mostly gen.
Word Count: 3400
Summary: House's latest patient has some interesting symptoms – one being that he thinks he's a wizard.
Author's Notes: Harry Potter crossover. No knowledge of HP particularly required, however; House certainly doesn't have any. :-p And forgive me on the medical stuff - I tried.

Title: Severus and the Crup
Author: josan
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: SS/HP
Genre: Drama
Summary: In a world where magic has gone wild Severus Snape ekes out a meagre existence on the fringes of muggle society believing the magic is gone forever, until he finds an injured crup lying on the roadside.

Honestly... how in hell have I not run across this fic before? Very, very good characterization, plot, and writing. Much love!

Title: On Wednesday
Author: Jay Tryfanstone
Pairing: Snarry
Rating:  PG-13; short.
Author's summary: "Postwar. Food, owls and taxes. There might be a plot in there somewhere." Harry lives as a Muggle clerk, not remembering his former life.
ivyadrena: (Default)

My Notes: The characterization is a bit shaky at first, the reactions a little over-the-top... but it's good. Not excellent, but good.

Fine Lines
Author: Shadowphoenix
Pairing/Genre: Snarry - Humor, Drama/Angst

“Children are odd, are they not?” Severus asked wanly, watching as the strange question caught Harry off guard. “They see with the clearest vision, yet we as adults place no validity in what they say. The knowledge that we possessed as children gets lost in the transition to adulthood, and with it goes our belief that such young creatures can ever truly understand the world. But the truth is, they can.

“Their vision is tempered by hopes and optimism, but beyond those delusions designed to help them deal with the horror of reality, the truth is there. And there’s always that one misfit who sees the truth, even accepts it, and yet in the deepest corner of the mind, nurses the spark of hope that there might be one out there somewhere who will prove that everything really is not as dark and dismal as it seems. The problem is compounded if that misfit actually finds the one that is believed to be able to make it all better. And inevitably, there always comes the day when that hope is killed and all those dreams are revealed for the lies that they have always been.”

Title: Bright With His Splendour
Author: Daegaer / Site
Series: Good Omens
Rating: PG-15/R
Author's Commentary: (one, two, three, four)
Summary: The complete life and times of Anthony Crowley, from the war in Heaven to the war on Earth, and a few encounters with an angel in between.

"Once your lot was seen to be involved my people wanted in on the act. I was supposed to shift round from place to place, getting the men to renounce God before dying. I ended up in one command the entire time, with one group of men. Got almost all of them home, too."

"Will you get into trouble?" Aziraphale said.

"I'm sure more than enough of them on both sides died cursing God without me adding to it. I couldn't do it to my men, not when they believed," he said.

"They had very strong faith?" Aziraphale said.

"They believed," Crowley said sadly, "in me."

Aziraphale patted his hand. Crowley hissed in irritation, realising in disgust that he had come off as sounding noble. He snatched his hand back.

"They were my men, Aziraphale! Mine! I decided what happened to them, not some pen-pusher off at a desk! And I decided that Hell couldn't have them!"
